Okay fellow educators.... these so called open / rich tasks, are meant to allow access to the curriculum for all students can you please explain how the ambiguity of said task is pedagogically sound? Can anyone convince me this is not the Mathematical equivalent of the failed Whole language approach, to Literacy in the early 90s? Also... Open, rich tasks, require creative thought which is at the top of Blooms Taxonomy and hence, a higher order thinking tool and in direct opposition to the gradual release of responsibility model reliant on Zone of Proximal Development. I am outing myself as oppositional... Could be a good thesis statement... hmmmmmm.
