Okay, first part of the story, theyve killed the huntsman, Joshua - TopicsExpress

Okay, first part of the story, theyve killed the huntsman, Joshua passes out and wakes up with Elise standing over him. She then yanks the arrows out of Decker: Elise flung the bloodied arrows into the fire. The flames leapt up as if shed pour gasoline onto it. Decker got shakily to his feet. Despite Elisa causal treatment, he didnt look very good. Joshua steadied him before he could fall forward onto his face. Elise ignored them. She focused instead on oddly familiar looking wallet. Joshua checked his back pocket. It was empty. Hey! What are you doing with my wallet? Finding out who you are. She pulled out his student ID and squinted at it. Is this really your name? He sighed. A lifetime of teasing made the question painful. Yes. You poor child. She handed it to Decker. The vampire gave a surprised laugh before Joshua snatched the card out of his hand. That has to be an Ellis Island misspelling. Joshua doubted that spelling it different would have lessened the teasing. His dad would insist on the embarrassing pronunciation. Its not a werewolf family name. Elise continued to dig through his wallet. His learners permit and library card followed. Hes seventeen. Freshly bitten. Hes clearly not feral. If he was, hed be trying to tear off your head instead of looking at you like a hurt puppy. Decker patted Joshua on the head. It was surprisingly comforting. Nor could he help me find you quickly. You know how slow my method can be at times. Elise gave Decker a dark look then studied the empty billfold of Joshuas wallet. Take him home with you. Joshua wasnt sure which of them she was talking to or which house she meant. He didnt want to go back to his parents with monsters chasing after him. Elise made herself clear when she realized that they were both standing still, staring at her. Your place is warded, Decker. No one will find him if hes with you. Decker glanced behind him before pressing a hand to his chest. Me? Elise snorted. Im not going to drag a newborn werewolf with me while hunting Wickers. Youre not going alone… Decker started. Elise cut him off with an angry stab of her finger. Im not doing that vampire in the trunk thing again. Its entirely too freaky. If hes a pack wolf, then theres a pack. Someplace. Elise had apparently taken her phone out of Joshuas pocket while he was unconscious. She photographed his learners permit and then typed in his home address. It looks like Albany is the closest pack. Was he from Albany? It took Joshua a minute to realize that she was talking to him and that he meant the werewolf. I – I dont know. I didnt recognize his car; it was red BMW i8. It had New York plates; KJV 2341. She handed back his learners permit and empty wallet. And he didnt tell you anything before or after he made you a werewolf? I dont think so. Up close she was breathtakingly beautiful and very scary. You know his license plate but you dont know if he mentioned werewolves? He took a step backwards and looked down so he could think. The bonfire threw uneven light and shadows so it looked like something was reaching for him. He backed up another step. I dont remember a lot of last night. When I woke up in the hospital, I couldnt even remember my name. The police showed me a picture of his car; they wanted to know who drove it to the barn. I was a little freaked out about the amnesia, so I memorized the license plate. How do you know it was the werewolfs car? Elise turned away to stir the fire, making it burn brighter. Driving back the shadows. After they left, I remembered him getting out of it, Joshua said. It was like a circus act: little car, big, big man. After he got of the BMW, he changed into a wolf. Thats when I realized why I felt so -- wrong. I was a werewolf. And you know nothing at all about werewolves? Elise collected the sticks that had been the hounds and added them to the flames. The Jack-O-Lantern leered at Joshua from bonfire. No, Joshua whispered. Nor about witches and vampires or any of that stuff. This doesnt make any sense. Elise murmured and Decker nodded in agreement. Pack wolves only change their own children. I dont think he was trying to change me, Joshua said. He killed ten other kids from my school. They say the only reason Im still alive was someone killed him first. Who? Decker asked. How? Elise cried. I dont know. Joshua rubbed his shoulder. I only know that the EMTs had to pulled his body off me. Elise was shaking her head. You cant kill a werewolf with a normal weapon. I dont think even a chainsaw would work. They heal too fast. A silver blade will work, but short of silverware, no one makes silver knives. The metal is too soft to hold a decent edge. Trust me, you dont want to be stabbing at a werewolf with a bread knife as it tears you to pieces. So its freaky weird is that a lone pack wolf shows up at a barn in the middle of nowhere and someone there has a weapon that can kill him. Did they shoot it with silver bullets? He spread his hands helplessly. I dont remember. Thats normal, Decker said. The amnesia that is. The werewolf bite is a magical wound; it opens a gate between you and the source of the werewolfs powers. When youre first opened up to magic, its burns part of you away. Elise made shooing motions. You need to get out of here before the police show up. Between the shoots and the fire, someone is bound to call them. Theres a string of bodies from here to Framingham. It might take past dawn to hammer this out. Joshua was all for bolting from the park. He never wanted to come back. He hated everything about it: the gymnastic rabbits, the badly placed trees, and the rampaging monsters. It didnt sound like Elise was leaving. What about you? My people work with the police on cases like this. It boggled Joshuas mind that there could be more cases. Boston was a lot different than he expected. Take him home. (Okay, originally Joshua was going be sole POV and thus Elise didnt need leads for her POV. Since shes now a POV, I needed to give her starting materials like Joshuas real name and address. It also makes more sense that she would get this info before letting him disappear. I plan on taking out the scene where they meet in the restaurant in order to speed up Elise being in Utica and finding Cabot. Lastly this is Saturday and not Sunday as originally written, so its no longer such several days before people start doing stuff in Utica.)
