Okay, folks, I couldnt help it ;-) Spent too many years reading to my descendants. So heres a story with the happy ending I want.... WHERE THE WILD PUMAS FANS ARE The day Cory decided to stop playing soccer in Australia, a scout said to him, “You know, you should be a Wild Puma. They have Wild Puma Fans.” “Maybe,” said Cory, “but only for one year.” That very night an ocean tumbled by with a Washington State Ferry just for Cory, and he sailed in and out of time zones until he came to the place where the Wild Puma Fans are. The Wild Puma Fans rolled their terrible eyes and rang their terrible cowbells and and beat their terrible drums and yelled into their terrible blue megaphones. And Cory said, “Be still!” and tamed them with the magical trick of being so absolutely outstanding at tryouts that he stood out even in a bunch of outstanding players. And then the Wild Puma Fans and the Wild Puma Coaches were impressed, and they said he was the Wildest Puma of all, and they made him Captain of all the Wild Pumas. “Now,” said Cory, “let the PDL Season start!” All season Cory jumped higher than anyone else and headed the ball farther than anyone else and kicked the ball away from the Wild Pumas’ goal faster than anyone else. The Wild Pumas won, and won, and won (and okay, they tied sometimes, but only lost once), and the Wild Puma Fans made Cory , along with his teammate Chuy, Player of the Year. The Wild Pumas won the PDL Western Conference playoffs, and then they went to the National semi-finals, and won again, and then they played the final match…. and lost. And then Cory, the Captain of the Wild Pumas, was tired of playing soccer. He was tired of running and jumping and pulling muscles in his groin with his wild kicks and bashing his head into a soccer ball day after day. “I said I’d play for one more season, and I did,” he said. “That’s it. I’m hanging up my boots.” So he gave up being Captain of the Wild Pumas. But the Wild Puma Fans cried, “Oh please don’t go! We’ll eat you up, we love you so!” And Cory said, ”No.” The Wild Puma Fans rolled their terrible eyes and rang their terrible cowbells and and beat their terrible drums and yelled into their terrible blue megaphones. And then they started up all over again. “Oh all RIGHT! “ said Cory. “But just one more year.”
