Okay its a Friday and I feel like sharing some REAL facts: 1. In the 2005 General Elections the female candidate with the most votes was Fuiva Kavaliku who came 5th in the entire block vote election. Unfortunately only the top 3 made it in as Tongatapu Reps. To make a long story short the majority of those who voted for Fuiva were MEN and the majority of those who voted for the top 3 men who got in were WOMEN. 2. Over the last 3 General Elections the number of women voters have outnumbered the number of male voters 3. Based on a Pacific Island Forum Secretariat 2005 research - an interview with a Male CEO from the private sector revealed that he is constantly challenged by female staff when he has attempted to promote a particular female staff member - and even when he did finally promote her he received a number of complaints from other female staff pertaining personal issues which had nothing to do with her profession attributes Are we our worst enemies? Do we perpetuate this psychological warfare on each other? When was the last time you COMPLIMENTED a womens strength, passion, ability and capability? To me this type of psychological warfare perpetuated amongst us women is likened to a school playground mentality. We need to RISE above it! To our female candidates who have decided to RUN in the November General Elections or are still deciding to Run: Eleanor Roosevelt once said no one can make you feel inferior without your consent. Its ELECTION YEAR: dont dis-empower those women who have chosen to run for Parliament - instead celebrate their courage and strength in the face of adversity!
