Okay, one more quick sneak peek of the rough draft screnplay of our proposed horror feature, Contrived. This is the opening shot. Blink and youll miss it. =) Of course I cant reveal much at all about the overall premise, but generally, the film will be partly a horror anthology of sorts, made up of stories written by yours truly---as well as a surprise guest writer who I am not ready to reveal---woven together within a greater, creepy story that promises to provide chills and heart-pounding moments of suspense. This is an excerpt of the (very) rough draft of the screenplay. Try to visualize the scene in your mind-theater. Some details are subject to change, but this will maybe help you get an idea for the feel of the film. Maybe. LOL Sorry for the teaser. :D EXCERPT BEGIN ______________________________ Contrived Written by Angel Rosa “A love letter to the horror genre, and a stake through its heart.” Copyright © 2014 Angel Rosa Registered, WGAe EXT. LARGE FIELD - DAY We open up on a wide shot showing an enormous field. The camera, positioned low, eases forward smoothly. Framed at the center of the shot is what appears to be an unconscious man, seated and bound. We stay on this shot as we move closer to our subject. The sound of symphonic strings begins to rise, softly at first, then increasing in volume and intensity as the camera draws closer to the seated man. He suddenly regains consciousness. He tries to shout out but his mouth is gagged. He twists and struggles to break free from his binds. The strings grow louder as the mans movements become more frantic and desperate. He looks around, wildly, as if very much aware of his impending doom. Suddenly a detached voice, hoarse and strained, breaks through the scene. The camera stops its movement and the strings are suddenly silenced. Off screen, a woman speaks. ABIGAIL (V.O. = VOICE OVER) Why a man? Why in a field? TOBIAS (V.O.) The man was the first. Its a field at dusk. That magic hour. Automatically ominous by nature, dont you think? ABIGAIL (V.O.) Or, perhaps beautiful. Depending on your outlook. And you never mentioned the time of day was dusk. It changes things. TOBIAS (V.O.) It doesnt. No.... What difference does it make? ABIGAIL (V.O.) Difference enough. In my opinion. If you want it to be dusk, you should have just made it dusk. TOBIAS (V.O.) Fine! Exterior. Large field. Dusk! The scene remains identical, but the lighting has suddenly changed some. The camera resumes its movement, and the strings reach a tense and uncomfortable crescendo. Suddenly the sound of another man screaming, from the left. That second man enters the frame, running hard toward the seated man, some type of blunt instrument raised high above his head. He reaches the seated man and lets forth a gut wrenching cry as he swings the object at the seated mans head. We cut to black at the precise point of contact, just catching enough of the blow to see the snapping head movement caused by the impact. Over black we hear the skull cracking result of the instrument hitting its target, and the spattering of blood. Followed by the sound of that blunt instrument being dropped to the ground, as the attacker catches his breath and weeps.
