Okay, people. Get ready for a controversial rant: Never in my time have I been so egregiously disappointed with Marshall University. By this, I mean that the election for the title of Miss Marshall was stolen from Ashley Prichard. Literally everyone I talked to on campus these past few weeks had voted for her. She got attention from numerous local newspapers, news stations, radio stations, and shes even getting recognition nationally from her fraternity. The body of support for her campaign was enormous beyond measure. They even said that there was a record number of people who voted this year--more than ever before. Its highly likely that most of the votes went towards her. I was not at the game tonight, but I have heard from everyone I have talked to that was there that, when the winners name was called, the stadium fell silent to the point at which one could almost hear a pin drop. Her campaign was minimal at best, with little to no signs on campus or support from the student body. Many people had no idea who she even was. With this combined with the body of support in Ashleys campaign, the logistics of the situation in a democratic context simply do not make any sense. Yeah, Ashleys different. Yeah, she wears black. Yeah, she has tattoos. Yeah, she has piercings. Shes. Different. Get over it. Shes an incredibly special young lady, more than deserving of the title of Miss Marshall, and much of Marshall University seems to agree with me. Just to be clear, I dont have any kind of personal beef with the girl who won. I dont know her. But I also dont know if the election was stolen, if it was rigged, if it was bought, or some other unconsidered factor might have occurred, but I am going to find out what it is. Tomorrow, I am going to demand an official count of the votes for the election and with official documentation of the candidates interview scores along with documented justifications for such scores be released to the public. If they refuse to release these scores, I will start a petition that will make the rounds throughout Marshall University demanding this information be released. If THAT doesnt work, then we will make as much noise at the local news stations as we can until this corruption gets uncovered. If she truly did win fair and square, then congratulations. My mistake. I sincerely apologize for any distress caused to anyone by this. But, seriously. We all know this isnt the case. Never have I been so disgusted with this institution in my entire life. Most of the time, I let it slide, as we all do, but this is unacceptable. They wont get away with this. I will make sure of it.
