Okay people, this is a massively in advance post, but Im looking at the EJC 2015 which runs from 01.08 - 09.08.15. Its going to be Brunico (Bruneck) in South Tyroll (Südtirol) in the North East of Italy. Now, this is not a particularly easy place to access, the closest international airports are Verona (220km to the South) and Innsbruck (200km to the North) both of which cost around £200 return from Aberdeen or Edinburgh, youd then have to buy bus/train tickets/hitchhike to Brunico. The other option would be to hire a minibus and have an epic roadtrip. I am very much in favour of this. Google maps says the journey takes 22 hours which I think is very optimistic of it so Id probably assume about three days would seem reasonable, or fewer I suppose if we take two drivers (see cost implication below). The cool thing about this option, is we could totally tour down Europe: to visit Brussels, Luxembourg City and Vaduz (thats Liechtenstein folks) would add just over an hour to the total drive time (officially) so might be worth thinking about, it would be less strict, plus we could totally take as many toys as we liked as opposed to restrictions with weight etc. The downside is wed all have to go together and it really only starts being viable for 5 or 8+ people (not 6 or 7 as then we have to jump to a minivan/minibus which is like twice the price of a car). If we do have this many people, the journey will cost around £200 each (if we are 4 or 7 its around £250 so still possible but quite a jump) (that includes, hire of vehicle, estimated fuel cost, channel crossing). It does not include the cost of the actual festival which is normally around 100-150 euros depending on when you purchase it (discounts for early bird etc. and the official prices are not yet up so I cant tell you more yet). Is this something that interests people? Im aware that you may not be in Aberdeen anyway so this is useless. Also, we can try as a society to fundraise to reduce our costs and Im going to try and get funding from the university (dont hold your breath) so does anyone have any ideas on how we could do this? TL:DR Road trip to the EJC will cost around £200 plus the ticket to the festival, whos interested? Also, do you have any fundraising ideas so we can lower the cost?
