Okay, sit down boys and girls and read about how local and state government work for you, or in this case... Dont. We received a renewal for one of our two cars...the one thats in my name. I sent it in with the proof of ID for my SUV. All was processed and a new window sticker sent back. Then about a week later, we received another renewal, also in my name, but THIS one was for my current and legally registered car. The first one was for a piece of junk pickup I got at auction, used for a few months and then sold last summer, and something I would never expect to get paperwork on it since I didnt own it anymore. So, I called the Potter county treasurers office to find out how an insurance ID card for a 2004 SUV was mistaken for a 1990 Ford pickup and how a new window sticker could be sent to us since the insurance ID card was for the wrong vehicle. She said it wasnt their fault and told me I needed to contact the D-M-V if I wanted a refund, even though I had paid the county. So, I finally get a hold of who I am supposed to talk to at the D-M-V which also claimed it wasnt their fault and pointed the finger dead-on at the county tax assessor/collector. And then they tell me if the sticker was removed (which it was), then any chance of a refund would be nullified (which it was) even though the county mistakenly approved the insurance card (which it did) and the state issued us a renewal for a pickup we dont own (which they did) all for a truck we didnt have the necessary paperwork for (which we dont) and they still sent us a sticker for the wrong vehicle (which they did). So, since I took everyone at good faith for doing their job and checking everything according to the law, were out: -$65 because they sent us erroneous paperwork and then approved the wrong uninsured vehicle which was sold in August of 2014... -another $65 to get the right sticker... -and both groups blaming the other, with no refund being available, despite blatant errors on both their parts. Oh sure, I know what youre thinking. I should have double checked the specific make of car but when paperwork for the only legal car registered to me is sent to me, I think its only natural to believe its for the ONLY car that I own and is legally registered in my name. And evidently, supplying them with the mandatory insurance card that is REQUIRED to get a renewal, even though it CLEARLY did NOT match the vehicle listed on the wrong renewal notice... CLEARLY, its not their fault. Your honor(s), I rest my case.
