Okay, so I need brainstorming help. Mertons Strain Theory (in a very tight nutshell) claims that crime derives over the inability of certain groups to achieve a goal through legitimate, institutional means. (The prominent example of the goal is the American Dream). With regards to the American Dream AND any other goals, can anyone give me programs/policies that might reduce crime? So far I have a job placement program, free/assisted public transportation, increased funding for drug addiction facilities, increase lights and securities in low income housing areas. The Job Placement program would ideally provide means to legitimate income. Public Transportation would facilitate traveling among those that cannot afford it, be it to jobs or groceries, etc. Drug Addiction would help those trying to become clean more opportunities to help themselves, possibly reducing strong armed crimes and homicides. Increased lights/security in low income areas would provide a sense of security and safety (through environmental design, aka CPTED). Again, I need help brainstorming along those lines. Any help would be absolutely lovely.
