"Okay so I’m currently finishing out my degree in hospitality/business. I was engaged to my girlfriend of 4 years and even though we both have apartments here in DeKalb, she basically lived with me. I thought she was the one I was meant to be with forever. The past few months though, it got way different. We were fighting a lot and would sometimes go up to a week without talking at all. Three months ago, we got into an argument so big, that in the end she threw her engagement ring at me and stormed out of my apartment. She wouldn’t speak to me for a week and then she came over to my apartment crying and begging that I take her back. I told her “I can’t, this is just getting to be to much for me. We’re both 22 years old, and we’re fighting like a 50 year old married couple. I’m graduating after this next semester, I already accepted a job offer in Downtown Chicago and I know we planned to move to the city together, but I spoke to my twin brother, and him and I are renting a place on Michigan Avenue because we’re both gonna be working down there. I took the ring back to the jeweler. Your stuff is in a box by the front door. I’m sorry, but this is what’s best for both of us. I hope you find someone that makes you happy and that you are able to pursue all your dreams. I love you, but it’s time that we face facts and realize we can’t get married when we fight all the time. If you ever need anything, don’t hesitate to call, but for now all I’m asking is that you leave. I’ll always care about you, but I have to move on”. She walked out the front door and was crying really hard, and I felt bad, but I stuck to it. Things were rough at first after the breakup happened but I moved on. I was sitting at a bar one night with some friends when I ran into my old high school sweetheart, Emily. I’ve been back together with my Emily for about two months, and things really seem to be going great. I’m with someone who I fell in love with when I was only 15 and when we went our separate ways to colleges, we both fell in love with different people and it didn’t work out. I feel like this might be fate. College life, and love life is a crazy ride, but I can honestly say at this point, I’m happy that it ended up this way. I got one semester life at NIU until it’s time for the real world. Honestly I can say that I’m ready for the real world, and the fact that I’m going into it with Emily, makes it ten times better." #1387
