Okay, so as promised, Im writing a tutorial on how to make faux cakes. Sorry but it could get wordy and please feel free to ask any questions if I havent made myself clear. 1. Use plaster of Paris and mix it to a porridge type of consistency. Pour it into your chosen moulds. Plastic or rubber are the only kinds worth using because metal or glass will not release the set plaster. I use flexible latex cupcake moulds and plastic storage containers. When they set, they have to be thoroughly dried. I dry mine in the oven for 4 hours at 100.C. In good weather, a week in the sun will do the same job. 2. Spackle (the yellow bottle pictured) is your icing. Colour it with acrylic craft paint. A little goes a long way! Set the project on aluminium foil and let it stay there until youve finished, that way any icing that ends up on the bottom can be pried of the foil. 3. Ice the cake or slice in your chosen colours. I like to use actual cake piping bags to add the decorative touches, but plastic will rip very quickly so I use the cloth ones. You can add silk, paper, or clay roses to the icing. As well as pearls, ribbons, bling, glitter and anything else that takes your fancy. The finished product usually takes 2 days to set firmly. Also if you use a spackle that is too watery it will crack up and look really nasty. My advice is to buy the best quality you can afford. Okay, I think I may have covered everything. Go! Have fun and please share your pics. ☺️💕
