Okay so heres my two cents on this. While I have to agree that changing the name of the Washington Redskins is a good call renaming military hardware I.e Apache Gunship, Chinhook, Blackhawk, Tomahawk etc....I feel is unnecessary. The article brings up the hypothetical what if the Luftwaffe had named their aircraft Jews or Gypsies? (I can throw historic and cultural fallacies all over this but lets stay on topic.) Neither Jewish nor gypsy culture are inherently warrior societies. The Apache, Lakota, Souix were all at their core warrior societies therefore naming military hardware after them makes sense. The article inaccurately refers to the plains war and American westward expansion as one sided. This misconception is generally because it was a guerrilla war the US won most of the stand up battles (exceptions being Black Hills and Little Big Horn) but the various Plains tribes preferred hit and run tactics and raids which while they inflicted heavy casualties were not widely recorded or reported on at the time. The final issue is unlike the term redskin Apache, Tomahawk, etc.. arent slurs its the proper terminology.
