Okay so this has been a whirlwind of running here and running - TopicsExpress

Okay so this has been a whirlwind of running here and running there! I thought it would be difficult and a change that would be unbearable. Well it has been challenging learning how to operate 80000 lbs of vehicle around curves mountains and small towns designed for grandmas mercury. The lessons I have learned so far are.. 1. Your family means way more than you ever thought. Loneliness creeps up each and every day! 2. You cant just expect this huge beast to get up to 65 in 2 minutes. 3. The amount of different people that you meet and deal with every day is challenging! 4. Driving a big truck is not all adventure and excitement! Its long, its boring, its exciting, its overwhelming, its fun, its challenging, and beautiful! I know it sounds like a whole bunch of life rolled up in a job. But I am finding out that this is not a job! Its a lifestyle. Im dirty.. Im tired! Its been a long long road but I feel this is a great occupation that gets the short end of the stick. Shippers look at us like we are a machine that moves theyre merchandise. Receivers (consignees for those that are truckers) look at us like a terrible start to a long day of unloading. Things that no one except drivers and former drivers realize are the actual hours that we spend loading, strapping, protecting, and moving their products. An average day for line haul consist if at least 16 and sometimes 26 hours just getting it there safe and sound not to mention that meals consists of a burger and a cup of caffeine at a truck stop as we fuel the beast! Not asking for a pat on the back but when you see a driver that is filthy.. Stinky.. Wired and in a hurry.. Stop him.. Say hello and maybe even tell him thank you! I know it sounds corny and a little crazy.. But think about the milk your drinking! The beef your eating.. The vegetables your currently chewing on.. They were in the back of that dirty stinky drivers truck and he got them there safely and in time for you to walk up, grab it off the store shelf and rush to the nearest cashier. My goal is to make my process (loading and unloading) more pleasant for my shippers and consignees! Please help me make the drivers job a little more pleasant! So when your on the turnpike or interstate and you have to pee take an extra two minutes to give A simple hello to one of those drivers like me! See you guys in the road!
