Okay, this may be a little long winded, but here is my basic concern. Please be patient if I misspell something. I have fat fingers and Im typing this on my phone. Also, I do not wish to be personally contacted about my opinion. I just want to voice it here among this group as food for thought. With standard based grading teachers spend more time stressing baseline skills and neglect to include a wider range of subjects and teaching methods. This discriminates against extreme ends of the performance spectrum by overlooking those with learning disabilities or that are alternative learners. Additionally, it neglects high achievers by failing to challenge them or highlight their academic achievements which in turn makes it difficult for colleges and universities to evaluate applicants for admissions and scholarships. Lastly, the confusion that exists with the poor execution and implementation of the grading system is confusing the children. Our kids are coming home feeling frustrated and worried about school. They are feeling depressed and stressed. Parents are struggling to comfort and help their children because the system is confusing. This system was implemented by principals and teachers because it is easier for them. I do not see how it benefits the student, especially a student that may be on one if the ends if the spectrum I mentioned above.
