Okay, time to poll the hive mind. Its time to get a new laptop, my old one somehow damaged the housing where the plug goes in and while it is still usable, it is also starting to BSOD on a fairly regular basis. Also, the battery is only holding about 2/3rds the charge it used to. It was a Sony Vaio VGN-FW300 ( tigerdirect/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4424370 ) and I am otherwise very happy with it. So, Im interested in opinions about new ones with the following constraints in mind: - For compatibility with other projects, it needs to be a Windows box. Recommendations for other OSes may be amusingly snarky, but in this context not welcome. From what Ive seen of Win8, I prefer Win7. - Size and weight are not restrictions. I dont mind it being heavier if that gets me a bigger screen and a bigger keyboard for my fat fingers. - Super high end graphics are not a requirement. I sometimes play games on my laptop, but it is primarily a web/email/document editing box. Conversely, having multiple video outputs is good because I occasionally plug it into secondary monitors or video projectors. - Long battery life a plus - High reliability a plus - I dont care about things like color, styling, and other aesthetics.
