Okay, were making progress. Two steps forward, one step back. My buddy James and I had an hour long optics conversation where he was able to accurately and articulately point out flaws in each of my scope options... Heres where I am at in this whole process: The rifle that it will be going on is a suppressed 18 AR-10. Use: LE DM role. Generally, shorter shots with possibility of needing fast follow ups. Lots of low light shooting. In those cases, will be used with a US Night Vision Corp PVS-22 and a B.E. Meyers & Company, Inc. IZLID 200P. Scope will be mounted in a Spuhr AB mount with a red dot (TBD), based on Bouchers suggestion. So, Ive narrowed the main optic choice down to a few options: 1) Leupold Optics Mk6 3-18x44 with TMR reticle. I love the turrets on this scope. Solid set of features and light weight. FFP. 34mm tube combined with their fully multicoated optics leads to great light transmission. Made in USA. 2) U.S. Optics LR-17 3.2-17x44 with a Mil Scale GAP reticle. A bro of mine thats an officer in CA runs one and swears by it. 30mm tube, which isnt my first choice. But, I do love me some EREK knob and USOs reticle selection is only rivaled by (maybe) NF. Havent checked, but had other officers tell me they do a hefty LE discount. 3) Nightforce Optics NXS 3.5-15x50 FFP Zero Stop 1/10 MIL turrets and MLR 2.0 reticle. Decent reticle. Cheapest selection on the list with LE pricing. Ive beat the piss out of my past NF scopes, and never had a hiccup. 4) Steiner Tactical 3-15x50 with G2B Mil-Dot reticle. Poor reticle selection. Good scope features. Im wary bc I have very limited experience with their scopes, and thats a whole different beast from their binos. 5) Schmidt & Bender PMII 3-12x50 with P4F reticle. Its the reticle Ive used for years. Im comfortable with their scopes. Im not comfortable with their new 2 year warranty bullshit. And, Im not comfortable with them having gone full retard with their pricing. Im pretty much settled one one of these. If you have another suggestion, make it 30-35mm tube, MIL/MIL only, illuminated reticle, 3-12 or some similar variable power. (Or, CounterSniper. Clearly, they win. :D ) Thoughts?
