Okay, your regular season competitions are over and its time to start the state series. Everyones record falls back to 0-0 and what you did previously against common opponents is meaningless. You need to re-focus your efforts on this weeks qualifying tournament. Nothing else matters and looking ahead is to regionals and states is a mistake. Top four from districts move one to regionals. Your mission is clear, be one of those four who gets another week to extend their season and do great things. Wayyyy back in November, I wrote of how the season is a marathon. Well, now the season is a sprint. What you learned from the regular season should be what your strengths and weaknesses are and that will go a long way in how you strategize for this weeks tournament. A smart wrestler will accentuate the positive and minimize the negative. Defined, you need to stay in the positions that give you the best chance to score and defend. If you start wrestles the opponents match you will surely fail. Be aggressive in the positions you feel most comfortable. Do not try and add any new training. If anything, you should be tapering your training especially the work in the wrestling room. Keep your conditioning workouts separate from your wrestling workouts. You should be in and out of the wrestling room in an hour and a half to an hour and fifteen minutes. No marathon wrestling sessions. Review drill focusing on your strengths while touching on those areas that give you the most trouble. In these scenario, you want to be sure you can defend the positions that have hampered you in the past. Okay now listen closely! The person who navigates these three weeks correctly will be the athlete who is the most mentally tough and strong. Time to be extra mean and lean. Put the blinders on (thats a horse racing term) and have a focus of steel. Everyday, remind yourself of how great you are and how unbeatable you will be. make it a mantra and take it with you wherever you go. Those who will not be denied have tremendous conviction. I use to step on the mat and think no one can beat me, not even King Kong! Many of you just laughed but thats the truth. Be ruthless, in a legal way, and never look back. The prize is dead ahead! tomorrows workout: 20-15-10-5 power clean (2/3 to 3/4 bodyweight) handstand push-ups technique: three minutes max repetitions of: head snap/double leg snap down/go behind bicep/collar tie snap down and away/high crotch snap down/spin/near side cradle collar/wrist/ankle pick
