The Oklahoma Chamber of Commerce has come out with another email containing yet another lie about Common Core. In this email, they have also essentially called parents fearmongers and liars. This is unacceptable. TO DO Contact Gwendolyn Caldwell, the Senior Vice-President of Government Affairs at gcaldwell@okstatechamber In the SUBJECT heading of the email write: IF YOU WONT LISTEN TO PARENTS LISTEN TO EXPERTS In the body copy and paste the following: No experts on early childhood were included on the drafting of the Common Core. Early childhood education experts agree that the CC standards are developmentally inappropriate. Five hundred experts signed the Joint Statement of Early Childhood Health and Education Professionals on the Common Core Standards Initiative and gave to the NGA to reconsider the Common Core. Common Core math standards are causing student and family frustrations and will NOT lead to STEM ready graduates. Although Common Core supporters have said the Common Core State Standards Initiative is NOT a federal program, the Federal budget now insures Common Core federal funding, further removing the rights of parents to direct their childs education at the local level. There was an anti-Common Core demonstration, where our friend Joy Collins of Bartians For Academic Freedom was able to speak directly with Governor Fallin about Common Core. Unfortunately, Joy learned the Governor believes she has STOPPED Common Core with her Executive Order. Unfortunately, that couldnt be further from the truth. We have heard the Governor (also the head of the National Governors Association - the organization behind the Common Core and 3rd Grade Reading Retention) will VETO any Common Core stop bill that reaches her desk. We need to continue emailing her Policy Director Katie Altshuler.
