Oklahoma City Storm Shelter & Safe Room Rebate The City of Oklahoma City recently announced that homeowners that live in the Oklahoma City limits can apply September 1-30 for a chance to receive a partial rebate on the purchase and installation of a new storm shelter or safe room thanks to a $2 million grant from the Red Cross of Central Oklahoma. A total of 830 rebates will be available to addresses chosen by an electronic lottery. A maximum rebate of $2500.00 is available per home selected. The storm shelter can be installed only after recipients get notice to proceed from the City. Residents whose homes were damaged or destroyed by the May 2013 tornados are eligible for the lottery even if they installed a shelter after rebuilding or relocating in the City limits. Apply online from September 1-30 at okc.gov or pick up an application at the City Clerk’s Office on the second floor of City Hall, 200 N Walker on or after September 1. Log on to okc.gov for details.
