Oko Poly withdraws from Strike The Academic Board of Federal Polytechnic Oko this evening withdrew from the ongoing national Strike of ASUP. Arising from the emergency meeting the Academic Board said while in support of the agitation of the unions, it has put the fate of students into consideration, adding that the Withdrawal from the strike was to enable students write the second semester examinations and be at par with other students of other institutions. Dr. Nsionu Ifeanyi who addressed reporters immediately after the meeting praised the efforts of ASUP in putting up a good fight noting that their withdrawal was not to disuade the union from the struggle but was in consideration of the students who have wasted a lot of time at home. He said the management will announce the modalities for the examination which will commence immediately According to him, the Academic Board which is the highest decision making body of the polytechnic met and deliberated on the ongoing national strike of ASUP and the fate of our students who have been at home for over nine months. He said, “the Academic Board praises the efforts of the union and its leadership for putting up a great a fight for our cause. We don’t want to dissuade them from pursuing their laudable objectives. So we thank them for what they are doing for us”. He continued. “The Academic Board while we are supporting the union’s fight, we said let us see what we can do for our students to help them because they have lost so many months and the Board decided that the students be called back to write their examinations and continue with lectures while we wait for the outcome of the engagement of the union with government. We don’t want them to fail. We only want to bring ourselves at par with our colleagues”.
