Ola to a lady looking at a Metro map, platform for Cinelandia - TopicsExpress

Ola to a lady looking at a Metro map, platform for Cinelandia pointing at the map of Rio. Today was my first big outing out of Copacabana, its always a challenge going that bit further out of the comfort zone but this is what i love about major cities around the world. Standing on the metro train and keeping an eye on the stops i was also thinking about what the guy on reception advise me to go and check out, its easy for him to say turn left out of the station. Arriving at Cinelandia central Rio i now have 3 options of exit, guessing at A the Cathedral exit i walk up the stairs to the bright sunshine and thousands of people going in all directions, which way now i thought?..Left it is i guess, whilst standing and observing my surroundings i automatically thought, Britsh media scare mongering the footy fan again, i felt this safeness in a vibrant city. Im now heading in a direction which i think is for the mosaic tiled staircase, its a well known tourist attraction, whilst walking i thought Ive not got a clue where Im going but i had this gut instinct. Now in Lapa i stumble across a info centre and as luck had it it was over the road and turn left up the hill, it was a beautiful climb of handcrafted tile mosaic stairs, the steps pretty steep but i made it to the top...Once at the top of this staircase i notice a cobbled road going up even further, why not i thought, it was a tough walk in 88f but once up there i found some fantastic views and a corner shop, magnum and a bottle of aqua por pavour. The rest of the day past with plenty more interesting points and happenings, lots of people watching in various local cafes, there was the cafe with no name, the owner didnt speak English and no English menu, i looked at him, he pointed at a meal for 15 reais, thatll do for me, a nice bit of steak with rice chips and this delicious black bean sauce. Whilst walking around i also found this big congregation of world cup sticker swappers, thought it was quite funny in the middle of a city. The walk up and down the Sddra miles and miles of tight streets with shops either side told me that the country of Brazil was welcoming the World Cup with open arms, the amount of green and yellow paraphernalia was colossal, never seen anything like it. After walking around this beautiful city for 6 hours my thoughts are now about enjoying myself, the media once again have done there best to put people off, ok, in any big city you will have trouble spots. The country of BRAZIL is waiting for the BIGGEST World football carnival to start. Come on England, The Maracana awaits us in the final!!
