Old memories. It was bond fire night in Charlottetown Labrador the year was 1972, and above our house on a long old slab of rock that was sticking up through the ground is where we build up our boughs a full week of hard work everyday after school, we would cut trees and haul them to that spot just up from our house for bond fire night in our little town called Charlottetown. And finally the night arrived and as kids we where all excited a big fire in Charlottetown it was going to be,we where going to light up the whole town, My brother Ramsay got some diesel to throw on the boughs and then he lit it up but it didnt seem to be burning that well, so Edmond Kippenkuck said I have a box of powder that that I brought back from Hawkes harbour this summer when I was down there with dad he says. There was an old whaling factory in Hawkes harbour twenty five or so miles to the north of Charlottetown that had closed down years before and there was an old building in Hawkes harbour that was still full of powder explosives small little squares of powder. Anyway Edmond takes of for his fathers shed and in a few minutes he was back with a small tin box full of powder and he said who wants to throw that in the fire, thatll light up Charlottetown he says, with that young George Noël jr. says Ill throw it in the fire and with that everybody backs away from the fire as he throws the powder into the bond fire, and with that there was a great explosion as the whole town called Charlottetown lit up just like an atomic bomb going of and we where all thrown away from the fire and when the dust had settled there was no sight of young George Noël , and then someone spotted him knocked out a cold junk about fifty feet from the bond fire between a bunch of stumps, we dragged him back on the hill thanking god everyone was still alive.
