#OldPoem Poverty By: Adrian Jarfar Smith What is poverty ? Is it defined being hardly able to eat, Due to low income? Is it defined barely having a place a to sleep, Due to the system? Is it about the streets you stay at? The roof where u lay at? Better yet, At the end of the day its about how much money you make. Is it the boarded up community? Houses with eviction notice notice the vacant houses really means no opportunity. Why we using social stratification when its comes to education? Barely surviving in the nation, black kids was bound for devastation. So what is poverty? Is it the low educated schools? If it wasnt for after school programs, I wouldnt known white schools had pools. And 2 gyms, milk crates wasnt used for basketball rims. I thought, ACT was for acting and SAT was a film. Universal health care system for U.S? No! So, Po, people get sick fearing medical bills so they dont go. To get checked out, Rather be stressed out Unhealthy with No money to our name Thats what them fake checks bout. They re-writing history All of it is a mystery This to all the folks who in had to live without electricity. Is this how life supposed to be ? Craving fame and jewelry, whites not trusting blacks cause on the news thats all they view and see. cruel and rude, is what they be Racial profile is what we, Get whens a black boy is by hisself and roaming in the streets. No hes not holding that heat, Or gang banging in the streets, He doing what he gotta do just for his family to eat. At the bottom is our peak 2 times better, is what we Gotta be just to be equal And if we are, we still aint equal So everything is unequal But aint nobody perfect and aint no race is better Cause we all come from the womb All fearing our doom Everyone in this room come together, let us bloom
