Oldies but Goodies Gimme Shelter was written by the Rolling Stones lead vocalist Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards, the bands primary songwriting team. Richards began working on the songs signature opening riff in London during the period when Jagger was away acting in the film Performance. As released, the song begins with Richards performing a guitar intro, soon joined by Jaggers harmonica and subsequent lead vocal.
