Ole Eggebraaten (my great great grandfather) (1844 - 1929) Ole Eggebraaten was six years old when he came to the United States from Norway. The trip took three months. He married Kjersti Corson, who was born in 1844 and died in 1916. They lived in Iowa. Ole moved with his wife and children to South Dakota when John, his second son, was about twelve years old. They built a sod house on a hillside near Rutland, South Dakota. When John was fourteen years old he and Ole drove a team of oxen to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, 50 miles away, to get lumber to build a house. There were no roads and the trip took three days. This house was located about a mile from where John and Anna later bought land and built a house and farm. Ole and Kjersti had twelve children.
