Ole placed some flowers on the grave of his recently departed mother, and started back for his car, parked along the cemetery road. His attention was diverted to a man kneeling at a grave. As he got closer, he could see it was an old friend, Lars, whom he had not seen in many years. Lars seemed to be praying with profound intensity, and kept repeating, Vhy did you die? Vhy did you die? Ole approached him and said, Lars, my old friend, I dont vant to interfere wit your private grief, but dis demonstration of hurt and pain is more than Ive seen before. For whom do you mourn so deeply? A child? A parent? Who may I ask, lies in dat grave? Lars looked up at his old friend, and with tears streaming down his face, answered, My wifes first husband! Vhy did you die? Vhy did you die?
