Olga Hope Shin, beloved black spaniel, died this afternoon, - TopicsExpress

Olga Hope Shin, beloved black spaniel, died this afternoon, peacefully. It was her day, and I think we both knew it. She lived the past few days fighting against the cancer, surrounded by the love of her family. We tried to make her as comfortable as possible these past months, spoiling her with delicious food, heated beds, all the play she wanted, and all the love we could give. This morning she woke up with more laboured breathing than usual, and it was clear that the time was coming soon. Jin and I had already discussed that she would become a Shindog, officially adopted by us, so this morning we made it official. We did not want her to pass away as a homeless dog, because for the past few months, here was her home. While Jin was at work today, I gave her extra love and care. We did her medical treatment, then we went outside for a walk in the neighbourhood. We enjoyed the morning together, and even played a little bit. When it was time to go pick up Jin from work, Olga went along with me, and was so happy to see her mommy. It was a sunny afternoon, despite the rain of the past few days, and Olga enjoyed the wind coming through the open windows on the car ride. Once we go home, Jin and I got to our regular routine, her in the kitchen, me sitting nearby at the dining table. We were just chatting about the happenings of the day. I glanced over to the living room, and saw Olga standing amongst the other Shindogs. Jin and I kept talking. A few minutes later, out of the corner of my eye I saw Olga walk towards the back door, to go to the deck in the yard. She looked at me as she went out. Five minutes later, I got up to check on her, and saw her in the place she chose to leave. She was peacefully stretched out on the deck, looking towards the yard. There was a soft breeze, the weather was nice, and she was at peace. We believe she waited till she could see Jin one last time, and she waited till she was part of this family. She chose an entirely unremarkable moment, but I believe that what she most wanted out of life, was to have a home, and once she had it, she knew peace. She was cremated this evening, and her ashes will remain with us, always a Shindog. Farewell, dear Olga. You had a hard life, but we hope you died in the knowledge that you died at home, surrounded by love.
