Omar Abdullah felicitates Medalist Akber Khan Srinagar, January 21: National Conference Working President and MLA Beerwah, Omar Abdullah on Wednesday felicitated Cyclist Muhammad Akber Khan for winning the Gold Medal in the recently held 19th National Cycling Championship held at Karnataka. Hailing Akber in a felicitation ceremony held at his Gupkar residence, Omar said that I am proud to see my assembly constituency boosting such a high class talent that has brought laurels for whole State. “I know cycling is considered as one of the high profile sport in Country and World. To earn medal in this event is not easy and that makes this victory of Akber very special,” Omar said. Akber who hails from Beerwah constituency is only second ever national cyclist medalist of State. On the basis of his performance in the national event Cycling Federation of India has selected him for the India coaching camp for the Asian Cycling Championship. Omar was pleased to know daily training schedule of the Akber and his achievements so far. “It is really great to know how this lad is training hard on daily basis. It is his hard work that has earned him laurels at the highest stage. I have come to know that he is training youngsters of Beerwah and his club boosts around 100 cyclists which is even bigger achievement according to me,” Omar said. Among others present on the occasion were Political Secretary of Omar Abdullah, Tanvir Sadiq, J&K Sports Development Association (JKSDA) Sr. Vice-PresidentRauf Ahmad Tramboo, JKSDA Members Mir Nazir, Nissar Hussain, Reyaz Wani and Mushtaq Bashir. On the occasion JKSDA delegation made Omar Abdullah aware about its working and efforts that JKSDA is putting into to develop sports of State. Omar asked the JKSDA delegation to organize cycling event in Beerwah in which he himself will participate.
