Omar fails in electrifying state! 36 un-electrified villages, 263 hamlets to be covered under RVE in 2014-15 financial year RC Sharma Chanakya Jammu, Mar 18: Despite the Power Development Department is being monitored by Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah himself, the department is inefficient to provide electricity to entire state after five years long his rule. The government said that in 2014-2015 financial year 36 un-electrified villages & 263 hamlets would be covered under Remote Village Electrification (RVE), which shows that Omar led government failed to achieve the target of 100 per cent electrification of the state. In a reply, the government said that under Remote Village Electrification, the government has covered only 244 un-electrified villages and 15 hamlets only in last five years. The target of this government was to electrify the state but the government has not achieved its target and still limping to its target. Standalone Off Grid Solar Power Plants are being installed in District and Sub District Hospitals, 107 Community Information Centers, various educational institutions, shrines, etc. The government further said that around 3 MW capacity SPPs have been installed in these institutions and 1752 KW capacity are being installed in next year. The government is failed in this aspect and assures that in next financial year the government will install 1752 KW in the state. Mentioning about the promotion of wind energy in the state, the government has said that wind masts of 50 M high have been installed in the various windy locations of the state. The government further said that one location namely Bidda, Reasi been found feasible for setting up of Wind Farm. In this regard a proposal of 8 MW capacity has been submitted to the MNRE for accord of sanction. In the concern of Mini/Micro Hydel Power Projects up to 2 MW capacity, the department has identified around 104 sites having 180 MW capacity for development through IPP mode, out of which 12 sites having aggregate capacity of around 19 MWs have been allotted to various IPPs and bids for 16 sites have been invited in the third stage having aggregate capacity of around 27 MWs and 22 sites have been invited in the fourth stage having aggregate capacity of around 35.20 MWs and the allotment of these sites shall be made during the current financial year.
