On 07-31-14, the Douglas County Sheriffs Office served a search warrant at 27681 Hing Lane, Lorane, Oregon, as part of an investigation into forged checks being passed in Lane, Douglas and possibly Josephine and Jackson Counties. The address was the residence of the suspect in the investigation, Vernon Crump. Crump shares the residence with his wife. At the residence Detectives located evidence of the committed forgeries, numerous forged checks not yet passed, as well as suspected methamphetamine. Vernon Crump was arrested at the location and lodged at the Douglas County Jail on multiple charges associated with forgery, as well as an outstanding warrant from Cottage Grove. During the investigation the Detectives determined that there are likely forged checks which have been passed, but not yet reported. Many of the checks have been passed at businesses which do not have computerized systems to cause an immediate check verification. This has led to a delay in the return of the check to the business before learning the checks are forgeries, as well as some of the checks have been passed in other counties. Crump is known to have false accounts in the name of several businesses to include: 3 Rivers Transportation, Ed Hansen Truck C., Reeds Fuel and Trucking Contractor, Global Life and Accident Co., Dynamically Correct Services, FAK Inc., David L. Pengor Inc., Central Oregon Transportation Co., M and C Logistics, and D.I.L.L.I.G.A.F. Services Inc. The Sheriffs Office is asking anyone who has accepted checks in these names, or variations of these names to please contact the Detectives Division at 541 440-4458.
