On 09/04/14, MPD attempted to stop a driver operating on a revoked drivers license, the driver failed to stop and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit started in the middle of Manchester, and ended near Dement bridge, near Wartrace and Normandy. The vehicle (maroon truck) being chased traveled through several yards, fields and private drives, finally ending in a field on Dement Rd. When the driver was removed from the truck, he produced a knife in the open position, he was detained and the knife was dislodged from his hand. The driver, Ricky Bo Duke George was arrested and charged with Simple Assault, Driving on Revoked 3rd Offense, Reckless Endangerment, Reckless Driving, Resisting Arrest, Drug/Narcotic Violations (meth and marijuana). This was a multi-agency, multi-county pursuit of a very dangerous person to society. MPD takes pursuits seriously, and considers all factors when a pursuit begins whether to remain in the pursuit or to disengage from it. This person was a threat to the public and needed to be apprehended. The streets are safer because this person was arrested. MPD officers Colvin and Aussiker, Asst. Chief Floied, Major Sipe Capt. Jones and Chief Investigator Butler are to commended for their efforts to remove this person from the streets. We would also like to than the Coffee County Sheriffs Department, both patrol and C.I.D., and Bedford County Sheriffs Department for their assistance in this case.
