On 12 March 2014, H.E. Mr. Kairat Sarybay, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the International Organizations in Vienna met with the H.E. Mr. Li Yong, the Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) to present his Letter of Credence. During the meeting Li Yong gave high marks to cooperation between UNIDO and Kazakhstan and noted tangible increase in bilateral interaction for the last several years, including development of large technical assistance projects by UNIDO, such as the Country program framework for Kazakhstan. Director General also emphasized Kazakhstan’s active participation in implementation of Organization’s regional projects. In his turn, Ambassador Kairat Sarybay noted that, UNIDO Director General’s upcoming visit to Kazakhstan on 2-5 May 2014 has considerable significance for further strengthening of cooperation in the light of industrialization policy being implemented by Kazakhstan and elaboration of the second five-year State industrial development program by Kazakhstani Government. Given UNIDO’s advanced experience in promoting industrial development in developing countries and countries with economies in transition, Ambassador Kairat Sarybay reiterated Kazakhstan’s interest in cooperating with the Organization on five priority areas, namely industrial energy efficiency, industrial modernization, industrial statistics, technological foresight and trade capacity building. The two sides expressed their satisfaction with current status of cooperation and discussed perspectives of further strengthening of technical cooperation between Kazakhstan and UNIDO, among other things through implementation of Country program framework for Kazakhstan, carrying out of national and regional projects and fulfillment of Organization’s new concept on inclusive and sustainable industrial development. Kazakhstan is a member of UNIDO since 1997.
