On 16 October, 2014, Canadian Ambassador Roman Waschuk and Polish Deputy Head of Mission Dariusz Górczyński greeted the representatives of Polish non-governmental organisations who visited Ukraine under the auspices of the joint Poland-Canada Democracy Support Program. Fifteen Polish organisations were pre-selected in the first round of an open call for proposals for developing joint projects between Polish and Ukrainian partners in the sectors of local democracy and independent media. After two days of extensive consultations and thematic briefings, they will develop full project applications to be considered in the second phase of the competition which will be held in November 2014. Poland-Canada Democracy Support program is the joint initiative of Poland and Canada, administered by the Solidarity Fund PL. The Program aims to support Ukraine in building effective, legitimate and trustworthy democratic institutions, in particular local government and independent media. The Program enables sharing of the Polish experience of the transition with Ukraine, as well as building of the systemic cooperation between Polish and Ukrainian public institution and civil society organizations.
