I have found a solution. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- First off, you need high speed internet, which not always easy to get. In my area (Santa Clara) Cable Onda offers 10 and 15 speed bandwidth - get the highest speed you can get. At 10 speed, ours costs $51.07/month with a landline included (which we dont use). Then you need your television signal. We began our journey with an existing Direct TV satellite service with a dish in our front yard. Within months of moving in, they sent us a notice saying that they were no longer servicing our area, and they would send someone to pick up the equipment. The dish still sits on our front lawn five years later. USTV streaming TV on my computer became so slow and so annoying that I could not watch it anymore. Next we switched to DVDs and brought back thousands of dollars of TV shows, movies and documentaries which we still have in a closet. Our friend Tom downloaded a tetra-byte of movies which we enjoyed as well. We have seen everything now - some we watched twice (having half-zeimers helps). Next came US based Netflix using Unblock Us so we could pretend to have a US based internet account to Netflix USA. The Panamanian Netflix is almost all Spanish, and I wont even start in about how lame Canadian Netflix is. The USA Netflix served us fine for about a year. The shows I liked did not update to new episodes fast enough. I then bought Apple TV and had a company jailbreak the boxes (I have three TVs - one in the master bedroom, one in the living room and one in the guest house). At over $300 a unit plus $150 each to jailbreak them - they were expensive and within a month, Apple had disabled them all. Back to Netflix. Then Jeffrey from Panama A/V started bragging about his new Freedom TV. I was skeptical, as I had heard promises from Coronado electronics and Panama City stores that turned out to be different versions of the same jailbroken Apple TV products. They had problems with disabled boxes as well. Freedom TV is different. I have had it installed for three weeks - and I am thrilled. it has literally thousands of movies, all the newest episodes of all my favorite TV shows, the latest documentaries, live TV/sports and news, and even the largest karaoke songlist I have ever seen. Freedom TV really is an entertainment centre in a box. However - that being said - any system has its weak points. Live World Soccer had so many people watching that the signal broke up - so going to a bar was my only option (or so I told my wife) LOL Also - with Freedom TV you are only as good as your internet speed - so make sure you have at least 10 - preferably 15 bandwidth - plus as soon as you get a system installed you are going to want to install a surround sound system - so count that in your cost estimation as well. To change episodes or control the system, currently we use a wireless bluetooth keyboard - Jeffrey tells me a remote control unit is on its way. A good upgrade I think. Panama A/V has excellent customer service and this particular product lives up to its name: Freedom. You can see the system on their website: panamaaudiovideo NOTE: I was not paid or compensated in any way for this testimonial - if the system had sucked, I would be telling you that too!
