On 22nd September, 2014 Peugeot Place area of Old Town witnessed a fire that could’ve been catastrophic. I take the opportunity to congratulate the Mombasa County Government fire department and senior officials who were at the scene, The Red Cross, Mombasa County Disaster Management, Kenya Ports Authority Fire Brigade, Kenya Power & Lighting Co. and mostly the area residents who collectively assisted in putting out the fire. I shall be recommending to The Mombasa County Government to recruit disaster management units from every area to be trained and locally equipped so as to ensure that disasters are managed from an early stage. Whilst cause of fire is yet to be ascertained I take the opportunity to once again pass my regards of sympathy to those who lost their belongings in the fire.
