On 23rd September 2014, I conquered my first mountain at 11.15 a.m. Stok Kangri, also known as the Guardian Peak of Leh, standing high at 6,153 meters. I had underestimated the mountain, but she taught me so much. Our expedition lasted 15 hours due to the heavy snow Stok had received the past few days. It was both, a test of physical and mental strength, mainly because we hadnt gotten the time to acclimatize and had gained an altitude of 5000 feet the previous day. Even though, majority of us were suffering from AMS and were puking our guts out throughout the expedition, 19 from our team of 40 summited, making the expedition successful. And for the first time I understood the true meaning of the words, You Have To Climb The Mountain Before You Can Enjoy The View as I stood on the summit trying to absorb the surreality of the moment.
