On 25 July 1940 prisoners wrote their first letters from the camp to their families. They used plain stationery for the time being, as the printed forms for that purpose had not yet arrived. One of the prisoners in quarantine had the necessary sum of money available in the camp depository and bought stationery and stamps for all prisoners. The content of the letters was dictated and could not be changes. The words I am healthy and happy elicited the greatest resistance. According to the camp regulations, a prisoner could send and receive two letters a month. The correspondence was in German. The letters were written on a specially printed form. The content was limited to 15 lines and the letters were strictly censored.
