On 3-31-2006 I completed a short study of the worlds immigration laws. What follows is the text of what I wrote at the time, edited to yank out dead links. According to the CIA World Fact Book there are 271 nations, dependent areas, and other entities on their website. On their page is 207 nations, dependent areas, and other entities* listed, most of them with the rules about citizenship regarding those countries. (*207 is the number arrived at by separating entities such as St. Kitts-Nevis) Here is a list of countries that permits automatic citizenship be granted on the basis of simply being born within the jurisdiction of the country in question: The U.S. Antigua Barbada Argentina Barbados Belize Bolivia Brazil Canada*** Central African Republic Chile Costa Rica Cuba Dominican Republic Ecuador El Salvador Equatorial Guinea France Gambia Grenada Guatamala Guinea Bissau Guyana Honduras India (if citizenship is applied for after age 18) Ireland Jamaica Lesotho Mauritius Mexico Nepal New Zealand Nicaragua Niger Pakistan Panama Paraguay Peru (can register at age 18) St. Kitts Nevis St. Lucia St. Vincent Grenadines Samoa Trinidad Tobago Tuvalu Uruguay Vanatau (eligible to apply at 18) Venezuela Zambia (until 21, must apply after that) Canadian law specifically states: Exceptions to this law include...children of parents who were not legal citizens in Canada at the time of birth. I want you to notice that Canada is the ONLY country that specifically makes an exception to illegal aliens. That is 51 countries out of 207 on this list......a smidge under 25%. That means that 75% of the WORLD does NOT simply hand you citizenship for being born within their jurisdiction. We are in the minority on this issue. It is time to join up with the rest of the world and state: You are not a citizen just because you are born here.
