On Aboriginal discipline... There is no punishment if a child - TopicsExpress

On Aboriginal discipline... There is no punishment if a child does not do as they are asked. They are not abused or struck, others making no attempt to influence them…and when a child refuses others merely shrug saying ‘perhaps she is deaf’, and that is the end of the matter. There is no subsequent reminder of the behaviour. Events of the past have no effect on the present; each new interaction is treated on its own merits. Whatever problems the children might cause they are never made to feel that their existence is unwelcome to their parents. And still the children suffer – when will it end?
