On April 30, RMA teacher Marleen Springston escorted a group of RMA cadets to Sloss Furnaces, a National Historic Landmark located in Birmingham, AL. Sloss received National Historic Landmark designation in 1981. Its collection consists of two 400-ton blast furnaces and around 40 other buildings. Visitors can tour the furnace, the underground railroad tunnel, and the building housing the steam-driven blowing engines used to provide air for combustion in the furnaces.
