On April the 3rd i will be another year older. Many years ago I dropped out of one of the worst mothers wombs you could ever wish for. I was unfortunate to be in the care of a drunk, a thief and a liar. You were never guaranteed a meal on the table every day and you were never certain to be warm. I belonged to a large family of 2 brothers and 3 sisters. One of my brothers (4 years older than me) planted a seed in my head from a very early age and that was the animal kingdom. Ants, newts, tadpoles, frogs, hover-flies shared our bedroom, insect choruses filled the cold night air. The world i was born into was considerably less populated than today and we had habitat and critters abundant. Dawn choruses filled the morning skies and badgers, hedgehogs, squirrels, foxes were virtually safe in their own environment. for years I have been wished a happy birthday and each year the very thing that makes my world turn diminishes more and more. Our oceans are pillaged, our forests cut down, our land poisoned. Thousands of species have become extinct. I hope one day I can pass on a healthier planet to my beautiful grandkid but there is a lot of work to be done. The one birthday wish i could hope for is my fellow man to wake up and appreciate what we have. For all those years ago that I recall being without food and electricity, I did have values and those values I hold very close to my chest today and every day....
