On April the 4th a pure bred blood hound puppy was found by a Harris County ACO. The innocent was found trapped and sealed inside of a plastic storage box. Nameless and gravely injured he found his way to Harris County Animal Control where the call went out for his medical rescue. Every puppy should at least have the benefit of a title so he was dubbed Belvedere, a good Southern hound dog name. Hours later he was transported to St. Francis Angels veterinary clinic where he was examined. We were hoping to determine that his life could be saved and that the injuries were survivable. This was not the case. His trauma was man made and not via auto like I had suspected or hoped for we did not wish to believe that this innocent had suffered so unmercifully at the hands of man. After careful and gentle examination it was discovered that his glossal nerve was either severed or damaged. This injury resulted in the inability for him to retract his tongue into normal position in his mouth resulting in dysfunctional movements leading to chewing impairments, as well as swallowing difficulties. It was not enough that this baby was so badly injured but then to determine that he had lived alone and friendless and injured for up to five days was almost more than the mind could comprehend. His hard palate sustained comminuted fractures with visible fragments. It was also determined that he quite likely had all of his facial bones crushed. A formal medical report is due soon along with photographic and radiographic evidence. We are imploring law enforcement to work with us in locating and prosecuting this monster to the fullest extent the law will allow. We now need the community to assist us in our endeavour to gain justice for this innocent whose only crime was being born and bred by the money making machine called greeders. Lets not allow us to forget abuse such as this occurs to millions every second of the day. Also people who can dole out abuse on a purely innocent puppy are just as likely to deliver these atrocities to anyone defenseless and weak, IE babies, children, elderly or anyone incapable of advocating for themselves. This is not only about animal abuse, this is about a pathology/sickness that runs rampant in every aspect of society. Please share his story so that his brief life will serve as a lesson to others that abuse of the innocent will not be tolerated against anyone who cannot fend for themselves. Everyones innocent life should have merit and everyones life should have mattered to someone. Belvedere, your brief life did and will have purpose. May your three months of hell be a lifes lesson for us all and for those to yet follow
