On August 1, 2013, approximately 1356 hrs, KY State Police units responded to 316 West Depot St, Marion, KY, along with the Crittenden County Sheriff’s Office and Marion Police Department regarding an alleged fatal stabbing complaint. It was reported that Britt Decker, age 26, started fighting with his brother, Almonzo Vassuer, age 29, inside their residence and assaulted him with more than one knife. Phyllis Vassuer, age 41, attempted to stop Mr. Decker’s assault and was also assaulted with a knife. A 13 year-old female, also inside the residence during this incident, escaped with no injury. Mr. and Mrs. Vassuer and the juvenile ran out the back door with Mr. Decker chasing. After Mrs. Vassuer and the juvenile escaped, they ran to a neighbor’s residence and called for help. Mr. Decker assaulted Mr. Vassuer, with a knife, again while outside. Mr. Vassuer went across the street, to 305 West Depot St, and collapsed on the front porch. Mr. Vassuer received multiple stab wounds and was transported to the Crittenden County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Mrs. Vassuer was also transported to the Crittenden County Hospital, where she was treated for injuries to her head, hand, and arms, then released. Next of Kin was notified.
