On August 14th, 2013 after perpetrating the largest mass murder in Egypts recent history during the removal of pro-Morsi supporters from the Rabaa al-Adawiya, Cairo (estimates range from 800-1000 dead) the military has recently cleaned up the buildings and the square and installed the sculpture below. The sculpture is formed of two hands that represent the army and police, cradling or protecting an orb that represents the people. While Im no supporter of Morsi I just cant believe the callousness and cynical revisionism represented by this tasteless and obscene symbol of state power. Photos below depict the square before and after the killings, and photos of the victims. Id also be interested to know the name of the artist who created this sculpture. For more info read the recent article in the New York Times from which this image and information was taken: nytimes/2013/11/14/world/middleeast/memory-egypt-mass-killing.html
