On August 28, 1963 2 years before i was born more than 250,000 people ; black and white, young and old, privileged and poor, from every of the Country converged on Washington D.C. to demonstrate their support for the passage of a historic civil rights bill. Nearly 50 years ago have passed since then, yet the march on Washington for jobs and Freedom remains on of the most significant public demonstrations of the 20s century one that continues to have an impact today. Senator John F.Kennedy said : I am not satisfied with an America where the minimum wage is only $1 an hour . 22 million Americans live in slums . Nor i am satisfied with the an America appointed since the Democrats put Judge Hastie on the bench more than a decade ago i do not intend to keep things as they are. I am not going to stand still i am going to move to the new Frontier. There on the Frontier is where no one asks what church you go to; where no one asks where wore your parents wore born There is work for us on that New Frontier. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr gave his well known spaech: I have a dream today..... he won the Nobel Prize in 1964 at age 35. He was the youngest man, second American, and third black man to win the prize . Dr. Kings non violent method of protest like Ghandi of protest transformed American Activism; a dynamic orator and dedicated humanitarian. He was assassinated on April 4 of 1968 3 years after my birth. This protest made big history
