On August 8, Officer Wheeler was dispatched to the 2500 block of Altoona in reference to a disturbance. There he spoke with a resident who advised him that a subject had just left, and threatened to return and shoot up the house. Officer Wheeler spoke with the victim and several neighbors to gather an accurate suspect description. As Officer Wheeler was leaving the area, he noticed a vehicle matching the suspect description. Officer Wheeler stopped behind the vehicle and attempted to approach the driver. The driver of the vehicle refused to show Officer Wheeler his hands, then abruptly put his vehicle in reverse. The suspect backed up and attempted to strike Officer Wheeler, but fortunately only struck the police cruiser. Officer Wheeler returned to his cruiser and pursued the suspect as he fled the scene at a high rate of speed. The suspect was located and apprehended by Officer Matteson and Hart-Smith a short distance away. A handgun and an assault rifle were also recovered. Thanks to Officer Wheelers presence, vigilance, and fortitude, a violent act was likely prevented. Great job Officer Wheeler and all involved!
