On Christmas morning last week, The Coffee Daily in Serangoon - TopicsExpress

On Christmas morning last week, The Coffee Daily in Serangoon Gardens opened its door to serve breakfast on the house. All they asked of their patrons was to donate a love offering of any amount into their Kindness Cup, where the proceeds would be channelled to the youths at Boys Town. “Christmas has always been a favourite time of year for me,” says Jared Chan, the cafés owner. “Over the last few years I have decided to make each Christmas more meaningful, in line with the spirit of giving.” This year, after taking over ownership of the cafe, Jared thought that the café would be a great platform to spread the spirit of Christmas to more people, and after brainstorming ideas with his girlfriend Sarah, the idea of serving free breakfast for charity was born. Jared’s gifts of love to charity started in 2010 when he was carrying out his National Service in Officer Cadet School. That year, he told his church choir members that he would not be giving anyone Christmas presents as he was donating his month’s salary to charity. Since then he has been doing something different each year for different charities. This Christmas, the St Gabriels alumnus decided to support the youths of Boys’ Town, in recognition that without the right nurturing, opportunities and graces he was given growing up, he would not be where he is today. “It is my way of giving back and I hope it will contribute to opening more doors and paths for the youths there, he says. Over the three hours of breakfast, he collected a total of $1,030 for Boys’ Town. We are really heartened by all our friends, families, and cafe patrons who joined us on Christmas morning to support this cause. It doesn’t take that much to give and spread love after all! How can you live out your Christian social mission to share what you have with those who have less?
