On December 18, 1892, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovskys The Nutcracker, performed by the Russian Imperial Ballet, premiered at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia. During his second season as Music Director of the New York Philharmonic, Leonard Bernstein conducted a Spring Festival of #Theatre #Music, which began on April 28, 1960. The first program in the festival was Music for the #Ballet, during which #Bernstein conducted the New York Philharmonic in The #Nutcracker Suite.
