On December 26, 2014, the Canton Senior Center hosted the 6th annual Winter Wonderland Holiday event, which brought together 70 people from Canton and the surrounding areas for a delicious meal and entertainment. Though most of our attendees were seniors, we did have a handful of younger folks who accompanied their family members and/or helped out by volunteering. This event wouldn’t be possible without the tremendous support of our local agencies who sponsored a portion of the menu, creating a fabulous meal. Our event started with a toast of sparkling cider to bring in the New Year. The Residence was able to provide us with the cider, water and the drinking flutes. Warm rolls were provided by Village Gate of Farmington, the delicious mashed cauliflower was brought to us from River Ridge at Avon, and the creamy delightful chicken was prepared by The Gables. In addition to our main lunch menu, dessert included cupcakes from the amazing Cake Gypsy. Not only was there wonderful food and people, Cherry Brook HCC was gracious enough to sponsor entertainment, so there was music. Jeff Weiselberg filled the room with holiday spirit through song, playing and singing the traditional favorites from Silver Bells to Linus and Lucy. Of course we cannot forget our amazing volunteers who came out to assist the day of. Todd Christopher of FAVARH, Donna Carney, Jeff and Ciara Dec were such a help through setting up, preparing, plating, serving, as well as clean-up. Having extra hands at an event like this really makes a difference when creating something special for the seniors. In addition, Victoria Arel of Cherry Brook Memories took some amazing photographs. Canton Senior & Social Services is dedicated to working hard to ensure the health, wellness and well-being of all the residents of the town of Canton. Our office oversees all programming within and associated with the Senior Center, while administering all federal and state programs and assisting in the application and follow-up process for all resources made available to clients.
