On December 4, Chargé d’Affaires George M. Staples presided over the inauguration of the newly completed solar power project located at the Kudang Health Center in the Central River Region. The health center provides health care services to the community of Kudang, as well as the 28 satellite villages surrounding it. Alkamba Association, a community based organization that seeks to contribute to the development of Kudang, was recently awarded a GMD242, 434 ($5, 638) grant through the Ambassador’s Self-Help Fund to start the solar power project. This fund supports small scale assistance projects to communities across The Gambia, underscoring the U.S. government’s dedication to supporting development projects in the country. Through this grant, Alkamba Association has installed solar panels that provide uninterrupted electricity and water supply to the health center.
